House Softball Fall 2023
OBGC is committed to providing you and your players a fun, educational environment in which players learn softball and build their confidence on the field of competitive play. We are committed to providing a safe environment for players and families. Whether a new or returning player, OBGC is committed to your player’s success. We have programs appropriate for all players regardless of their softball experience. OBGC softball is separated into three divisions based on a player’s grade:
8U – Coach Pitch (Grades K – 2) is an introduction to softball with an emphasis on a brilliance in the softball basics, teamwork and fun. Players use an 11” ball with the coach pitchers placed no farther than 35′ from the plate. Practices are normally one day per week with two games a week during one weeknight and on Saturday. Game and practice schedules will not be available until closer to the season’s start in September 2023. Players must provide their own helmets, bats and gloves; cleats and long baseball/softball pants are highly recommended.
Cost for 8U = $195*
10U – Modified Player Pitch (Grades 3 – 5) is the next step in a player’s understanding of softball with the introduction of new fundamentals including pitching, base leading and stealing, and playing with umpires calling balls and strikes. At the 10U level, the emphasis remains a focus on the fundamentals, teamwork and fun. Players use an 11” ball with players pitching from 35′. Practices are normally one day per week with two games a week during one weeknight and on Saturday. Game and practice schedules will not be available until closer to the season’s start in September 2023. Players must provide their own helmets, bats and gloves; cleats and long baseball/softball pants are highly recommended.
Cost for 10U = $230*
13U – Player Pitch (Grades 6 – 8) is the top division of our House Softball program and is a competitive league where coaches reinforce softball fundamentals and introduce more advanced softball strategies and techniques. We continue our focus on teamwork and fun. Players use a 12” ball and pitch from 40 feet. Practices are normally one day per week with two games a week during one weeknight and on Saturday. Game and practice schedules will not be available until closer to the season’s start in September 2023. Players must provide their own helmets, bats and gloves; cleats and long baseball/softball pants are highly recommended.
Cost for 13U = $230*
*Early Bird Pricing will be in effect until 7/15/23 at which time it will switch to Regular pricing listed above.
OBGC will form teams in August 2023, and OBGC’s objective is to form balanced teams that are competitive for play. OBGC makes every effort to honor two-way carpool requests (i.e., when two families make the same request for their players to be placed on the same team for transportation or other needs), but OBGC does not honor requests for specific coaches. Players will be assigned to the appropriate division depending upon a player’s grade, and players can only play up in an older division when the OBGC commissioner, OBGC leadership, and parents all agree to that placement after a review on a case-by-case basis.
OBGC House Softball has a motivated group of returning coaches in fall 2023, all of whom have coached for multiple seasons at every House Softball division. We are always looking for new volunteer coaches and assistant coaches so please consider volunteering your time during registration. OBGC proudly claimed 13u and 8u Spring 2023 championships, a 10u Spring 2022 championship, and Spring 2021 championships at the 8U and 10U levels during our annual league consortium playoffs. We will play in a league consortium in fall 2023 with teams from Rockville, Clarksburg, Damascus, Poolesville and Burtonsville. Our league consortium makes for great games at great fields throughout Montgomery County.
Thank you for your support of OBGC House Softball. Please let us know if you have any House Softball questions at softball@obgc.com; you can send OBGC registration questions to obgcadm@obgc.com.
In the meantime, we’ll see you in fall 2023 and as always, Go OBGC!
