We are excited to announce the opening of 2022 Lacrosse season!
We will do our best to accommodate all who want to play but may need to limit the number of players once maximum team sizes are reached, so please register early. Important note – lacrosse registration will close on February 25th 2022 after which players will only be accepted as roster spots on specific teams are available.
OBGC 2022 Lacrosse Program
6U Scoopers Update:
Scoopers program is strictly a completely instructional, stick-only clinic format. Clinics will begin Sunday 10 April 2022 and end Sunday 22 May 2022. Clinics will run from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on the OBGC campus. These are intended to introduce the basics of the sport so the player is ready to excel in the following year in 8U when full pads are required. Full details to follow for all registered families.
Spring Season:
The Olney lacrosse program enters our 8th year in the Western Maryland Youth Lacrosse Conference (WMYLC). For more information on WMYLC please visit their website at www.wmylc.org.
Age Brackets:
OBGC Boys Lacrosse program offers lacrosse for novice and experienced players in the following age brackets. WMYLC has adopted US Lacrosse age group guidelines. The new format is below.
Scooper Boys – 6U (Kindergarten and first graders who are not ready to compete with pads) $70 Instructional (Sticks Only)
Bantam Boys – 8U (1st & 2nd grade)
Pee-Wee Boys –10U (3rd & 4th grade)
Youth Boys – 12U (5th & 6th grade)
Junior Boys- 14U (7th and 8th grade)
Registration Deadline: 25 February 2022
The age brackets for 2022 are in alignment with US Lacrosse recommendations for boy’s youth lacrosse. Coaches will be responsible for validation of birthdates, and will be required to present opposing teams with rosters prior to each game.
Team Formation:
If more than one team is formed in the Junior, Midget, Peewee, or Bantam age groups, OBGC coaches will place players on teams based predominantly on grade to maintain alignment with other teams in the league.
Equipment:
OBGC provides uniforms and specialized goalie gear. All other personal equipment is the responsibility of the player. Boys require helmet, shoulder and arm pads, groin protection, gloves, lacrosse stick, mouth-guard and field shoes. Rib pads are recommended but not required. Please arrive at the first practice with all of your equipment.
Practices: In general, practices will be held 2 times a week for 14U-10U and 1 or 2 times per week for 8U. This will be determined by the 8U coaches and parents. Practice fields and times will be determined once the permitting process has been completed. Additional practices may be held during weekend periods. Please bring water to every practice and be sure to take your trash with you when you leave.
Games:
A complete game schedule will be provided as soon as the schedule has been set. 8U-14U games will be played on Saturdays. Home games will be at OBGC. Away game locations will vary but could be as far as an hour drive. Towards the end of the regular season 12U and 14U will have at least one mid-week game scheduled. End of season play will occur on 5/21 & 5/22 for all age groups (10U through 14U).
